Kompas.com – Malang Police Station, East Java, succeeded in dismantling the practice of forgery of premium packaged cooking oil carried out by a married couple with the initials S (60) and GR (46).
The two counterfeiters were arrested at a house in Karang Ploso District, Malang Regency.
Modus operandi
Deputy Chief of Malang Police Commissioner Bayu Halim revealed that this case was revealed after a report from a trader in Dau District who suspected the incompatibility of the specifications of cooking oil products in 5 liters of packaging.

After the investigation, it was discovered that the married couple falsified the Sunco brand cooking oil by re -packing bulk oil into the jerry can labeled Sunco.
People are advised to be more careful in buying premium cooking oil, especially the Sunco brand, taking into account the following differences:
- Jerry can size: fake products have a smaller jerry can size compared to original products.
- Jerry cans: Original products use white lids, while fake products use yellow lids.
- Oil weight: Original products weigh around 4.6 kg, while fake products are only around 4.4 kg.
- Oil color: Fake cooking oil has a dark yellow color, while the original oil is bright yellow.
- Halal stickers and logos: stickers on fake products are smaller, and the halal logo installed still uses the old design.
Advantages and evidence
Based on the results of the examination, the couple has been running an illegal business since December 25, 2024 and managed to sell 16 fake cooking oil jerry cans with a total profit of Rp4.8 million.
In addition, they are also actively offering their products directly to shops at lower prices than original products.

The police confiscated several items of evidence, including:
- 11 cartons of premium cooking oil bearing the Sunco logo,
- 1 Invoice addressed to one of the stores,
- 11 empty jerry cans,
- 36 stickers brand cooking oil,
- Cash worth Rp. 16,866,000.
For their actions, S and GR were charged under Article 100 of RI Law Number 20 of 2016 concerning Brands and Geographical Indications as well as Article 62 Jo Article 8 Paragraph (1) Letter a, B, and C of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection.
They are threatened with a maximum prison sentence of five years and/or a fine of up to Rp 2 billion.
