Quoting, food containing probiotics can reduce the stress response from the hypothalamus-pitting in various ways. This stress can cause intestinal permeability and translocation of lipopolysaccharides, both of which contribute to the symptoms of depression.
According to Pubmed Central, food containing probiotics cannot be used as a single treatment. The results showed that probiotics were effective in reducing depression if given with antidepressants.
