I Nyoman Giri Prasta was officially appointed as Deputy Governor (Deputy Governor) of Bali by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (2/20/2025). Giri Prasta is now legally accompanying Wayan Koster to lead Bali for 2025 to 2030.
Giri Prasta was born on March 19, 1972 in Pelaga Village, Petang District, Badung, Bali. He is a public figure that is widely known in Bali, mainly because of his work as the Badung Regent for two periods (2016-2021 and 2021-2025).
Giri Prasta’s Family Background
Giri Prasta grows in a simple family, but has an important role in society. His father, Nyoman Sukarta, was a health paramedic known for his service in serving the community. His mother, Ni Ketut Suwiti, is a midwife who helps labor and provides health services for mothers and children in his village.

Giri Prasta is married to Ni Kadek Seniasih. They were blessed with three children, namely Ni Putu Diana Putri, I Made Bima Nata, and Ni Komang Sundari Dewi.
Giri Prasta Education History
Giri Prasta’s formal education began at Pelaga 1 State Elementary School (SDN) (1978-1984). He then continued to the State Middle School (SMPN) 1 Petang (1984-1987) and the Abiansemal State High School (1988-1991).
After completing high school education, Giri Prasta had faced various challenges before finally being able to continue his education to the tertiary level. He finally continued his education to the College of Social and Political Sciences (STISIP) Margarana, Tabanan.
This education gives a strong theoretical foundation of Prasta in understanding various social, political, and economic aspects that are relevant to regional development. Giri Prasta graduated with a Social Bachelor Degree (S.Sos) in 2010.
Giri Prasta has been active since a young age
Besides being active in the political world, I Nyoman Giri Prasta also has broad experience in various social organizations. He once served as Chair of the Pelaga Village Community Empowerment Institute (LPM) (1998-2015), Secretary of the PPK Petang Verification Team (2000-2005), Chairperson of the PDIP Branch Management (PAC) Petang District (2005-2010), and Chair of the Leadership Council Branch (DPC) PDIP Badung (2010-present).
Giri Prasta’s Political Career
I Nyoman Giri Prasta’s political career starts from the local level. He was initially elected as a member of the Badung Regional Representative Council (DPRD) for the 2004-2009 period.
Giri Prasta is active in various legislation and supervision activities while serving as a member of the Badung DPRD. He is also known as a figure close to the community, always listening to their complaints and aspirations, and trying to find the best solution.
In the next period (2009-2014), Giri Prasta was again elected as a member of the Badung DPRD. He was later trusted to serve as Chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Faction of the Badung DPRD.
Giri Prasta then recorded history by being elected as Chairman of the Badung DPRD in 2011. He became the youngest chairman of the Badung DPRD in the history of Gumi Keris.
While serving as Chairman of the DPRD, Giri Prasta succeeded in improving the performance of the legislative institution and established a harmonious relationship with the local government and various elements of society.
The success of Giri Prasta as the Chairperson of the Badung DPRD brought him on the occasion of being a candidate for the Badung Regent in the 2015 Regent Election (Pilbup). In partnership with I Ketut Suiasa, Giri Prasta won the Badung Pilbup with significant votes. He was appointed as the Regent of Badung on February 17, 2016.
Flashback Giri Prasta as Regent of Badung
As the Regent of Badung, Giri Prasta focused on improving the welfare of the community through various innovative and sustainable development programs. He stressed the importance of infrastructure development, improving the quality of education and health, as well as the development of the tourism sector that is environmentally friendly.
One of the excellent programs of Giri Prasta is “Badung Angelus Buana”. This is the Badung Sharing program for Bali to help physical development and efforts to improve the welfare of the community.
In addition, Giri Prasta also encouraged the development of the agricultural and fisheries sector through the provision of capital assistance, training, and assistance to farmers and fishermen. He also promoted local Badung products to compete in national and international markets.
The success of Giri Prasta in leading Badung brought him back as the second period of Badung Regent in the Badung Pilbup 2020
Chosen as Deputy Governor of Bali
Giri Prasta took a new step in his political career in 2024 by nominating himself as Deputy Governor (Deputy Governor) of Bali to accompany Wayan Koster. The Koster-Giri couple won the 2024 Bali Pilgub with convincing votes.
Giri Prasta is committed to supporting Koster’s vision and mission in building a more advanced, prosperous and sustainable Bali. He will focus on improving the quality of public services, the development of a quality tourism sector, and the economic empowerment of the Balinese people.
Giri Prasta’s assets
Checked on the official website of the State Organizer’s Assets Report (E-LHKPN) of the Corruption Eradication Commission, Giri Prasta last reported his assets in 2023. He reported that he had a wealth of Rp 7.3 billion.
