Bandung – Various types of coffee from Indonesia have been recognized for their deliciousness internationally. One of them is Gunung Puntang Coffee, Bandung Regency, West Java which has won Specialty Coffee Association of America Expo in Atlanta, United States, 2016.
When met at the Citylink Festival, Bandung City, recently, the Chair of the Mount Puntang Coffee Farmers Group, Aleh S (46), said that at the international coffee auction, his Arabica coffee, which was grown on Mount Puntang, received a score of 86.25.
“Gunung Puntang coffee was purchased by a buyer from Atlanta for 56 dollars or around Rp. 758,576 (per kilo gram),” said Aleh to detikFood.

He never expected that Gunung Puntang Coffee would become the champion. Unfortunately at that time only 20 kilo grams of coffee was brought to Atlanta.
Aleh revealed that what differentiated his coffee from coffee from other countries that was being auctioned in Atlanta at that time was processing. He said, no matter how good the coffee is, if it is processed carelessly the results will be original.
“Processing is a barometer, we also have to adjust to buyers’ requests. Apart from that, coffee processing must comply with SNI and be registered with Geographical Indication (IG) 00022 West Java. That’s why the label of the package we sell has the IG,” he said.
He is grateful, since then Gunung Puntang Coffee has become increasingly well known. Since then, Gunung Puntang Coffee has spread to the windmill country of the Netherlands and the land of the Japanese samurai with a demand for two tons of coffee per week.

“Shipping to Atlanta continue still sending. “Deliveries abroad per week reach two tons,” he concluded.
