Sushi

The power of ancient sushi dishes is undeniable. The raw fish presented in various kinds of soft sushi rolls has various textures in the layers.

Beginners admit that sushi introduces them to a variety of flavors that are enhanced by the sweetness of sticky rice, the dominant fish (eel, squid, octopus, or salmon), the spiciness of wasabi, and the lingering spiciness, thanks to pickled ginger. Once you get used to this slightly unusual dish, there’s no turning back.

Over the years, sushi chefs have tried many permutations and combinations to make this dish more acceptable and add their own signature twist to this versatile roll. Real sushi rolls were very different from the ones we get today.

The rice is fermented, and the fish is seasoned with salt to naturally preserve the fresh, raw catch for a longer time. Eventually, people threw away the lump of rice and ate only fish.

Although this tradition originated in China, Japan deserves credit for popularizing this dish and bringing it to every corner of the world. However, the rice is not just thrown away; rice rolled beautifully with fish and other spices.

This apparently specially created dish was only introduced to the United States in the 1960s. Soon after, the California sushi roll was invented, and it became a significant moment in sushi history. More in line with American tastes, the use of avocado is common in these rolls along with cooking the fish. Many other spices are mixed, adjusted and changed.
