“This is the second branch. The first branch is at (brother’s) house on Jalan Bema, Banjar Sakih, Guwang, Warung Mek Resih,” said Mak Badung to detikBali, Friday (8/11/2024).

This shop, which has been established for ten years, is able to sell ice salak in large quantities. Even salak ice can be sold out in just 4 hours.

“You can sell a lot of ice in one day, you can’t count it. Only when you run out of salak ice, you immediately close. Usually it closes at 2 o’clock,” said the 48-year-old woman.

What is unique about this salak ice is that the recipe was discovered by accident. Initially, Mak Badung wanted to add flavor to the fruit ice by mixing salak. It turns out, salak ice is very delicious and sells well.

“I tried making mixed ice to make the taste different. So I peeled the snake fruit to mix it in. It turned out that the snake fruit ice was delicious and the best seller,” said Mek Badung.

Salak ice presents a unique taste and is different from fruit ice in general. If other fruit ice is usually sweet, salak ice actually presents a unique combination of sweet and sour flavors.

Apart from that, with a price of IDR 5 thousand, this snake fruit ice has quite a lot of pieces of snake fruit. The texture of the zalacca fruit is very soft, because it has been boiled beforehand.

Not only the snake fruit, the milk in the snake fruit ice also has the right sweet taste.

The challenge in selling salak ice is the price. Even though snake fruit is sometimes rare and expensive on the market, Mek Badung still maintains the same price and portion.

“It’s still selling even though it’s not salak season, and the price is still IDR 5 thousand even though the price of salak is expensive on the market,” he said.

At Warung Bu Badung, all types of ice are sold for IDR 5,000. Including salak ice, sugar ice, daluman ice, kolak ice, injin ice, mixed ice, and milk ice.

Apart from salak ice, Warung Bu Badung also sells heavy food such as tipat kare, tipat plecing, rujak kuah pindang, and many more. The various foods are sold for between IDR 10 thousand and IDR 15 thousand.
