There are several foods that sufferers should not consume mumps. These foods are thought to make mumps worse and take longer to recover.

Mumps itself is an infectious disease caused by a virus. This disease is usually characterized by painful swelling of the parotid salivary glands.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the cause of this disease is the mumps virus which is included in the paramyxovirus group. It usually starts with mild symptoms such as headache, fever, and fatigue.

Usually, there is severe swelling of the salivary glands. This then causes the cheeks and jaw to swell accompanied by pain.

Abstinence foods for mumps

There are several restrictions that must be followed by those affected by mumps. One of them is related to food. Anything?

1. Sour foods

According to various sources, acidic foods should not be consumed by those who are experiencing mumps. The reason is, acidic foods stimulate the salivary glands to secrete a lot of water. This will trigger pain in the mumps area.

2. Chicken meat

It’s best to avoid chicken because it is a tough food. When chewing requires the jaw to work extra hard and triggers pain. Apart from that, chicken meat is also a food that cannot be digested easily.

3. Sticky rice

Foods made from sticky rice should also be avoided. This is because when eaten it causes the jaw to work extra hard and swell which triggers excessive pain.

4. Spicy food

Foods such as chilies, peppers and seafood will make it difficult for the stomach to digest. The body may be less able to absorb nutrients, making sufferers feel hot and the body more tired.
