KOMPAS.com – Eating grilled fish isn’t complete without chili sauce. If you are looking for a practical chili recipe, you can make tomato paste chili sauce.
First of all, grill the tomatoes and chilies before mashing them. You can grind it or use a blender.
The following is the recipe and method for making tomato paste chili sauce, according to the book “100 Recipes for Sambal Variations” by Suryatini N. Ganie (2009) published by PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama.

- 4 red chilies
- 3 cayenne peppers
- 1 red tomato
- 1/2 tsp or to taste salt
- 1 tsp fried shrimp paste
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- Cook red chilies, cayenne peppers and red tomatoes by roasting them over a fire. Remove, then blend.
- Add salt, shrimp paste and brown sugar. Serve with side dishes and rice.
