Jakarta –
Lemon tea is often chosen as a drink to accompany food. However, it turns out that not all foods are suitable to pair with lemon tea because they can trigger side effects. Here’s the list.
Apart from hot sweet tea or sweet iced tea, warm lemon tea or iced lemon tea is also often chosen by Indonesians as an accompaniment to food. The taste of iced tea is even more refreshing with the addition of lemon slices which also provide vitamin C intake.
But apparently not all foods are suitable to pair with a glass of lemon tea. The reason is because the taste of the food produced will not be suitable and can have a bad effect on health.
Quote Times of India (17/11/2024), here are 5 foods that should not be consumed with lemon tea:
1. Dairy products
Milk is not suitable to be enjoyed with lemon tea. Because the acidity of lemon can cause milk proteins to thicken and curdle when combined with tea. As a result, the texture is unsatisfactory.
Apart from that, dairy products, such as cheese, butter and yogurt, are also not recommended with lemon tea. The effect is the same, it will thicken.
2. Foods high in sugar

Lemon tea itself is refreshing, but when paired with foods high in sugar, the taste will ‘crash’. Foods such as cakes, pastries and ice cream are often made with added sugar which will counter the natural sour taste of lemon tea.
As a result, the taste in the mouth will be unbalanced. Additionally, the acidity of lemon tea will accentuate the sweet taste of high-sugar foods in an unpleasant way.
3. Fried foods
Fried foods, such as fried foods or fried chicken, are high in oil and fat. When consumed with lemon tea, it can trigger discomfort in the stomach.
The acidity of lemon tea can irritate the stomach lining, making digestion unpleasant. Not only that, fried food has a ‘heavy’ taste. So it is not suitable to be paired with lemon tea which tastes light and refreshing. It is not impossible that it will produce a collision in terms of taste and texture.
4. Beefsteak

Red meat, such as beefsteak, should also not be consumed with lemon tea. The high protein and fat content of red meat does not match the acidity of lemon tea. This combination can produce stomach discomfort.
The sharp sour taste of lemon is also considered not to marry with the savory and umami taste of red meat. So drinking lemon tea is not the best choice if you want to enjoy the maximum taste of beefsteak.
5. Sweet and spicy foods
Many foods are better served with spicy or sweet sauce. However, this food is also not suitable to be enjoyed with lemon tea. Again, because the acidity of lemon does not combine well with herbs or spices in food.
The sweet and spicy taste of food that is too strong can cause a ‘conflict’ of tastes in the mouth when it meets the sourness of lemon tea. The eating experience will also be less than optimal.
