The freshness of Palu Butung’s legendary Ijo Banana Ice, Surabaya

Surabaya (ANTARA) – The hot weather in Surabaya is indeed the right atmosphere to refresh yourself by enjoying fresh snacks such as Ijo Pisang Ice. One of the legendary ones in Surabaya is Es Pisang Ijo and Es Palu Butung “Taste Center” which is located on Jl. Margorejo Indah Utara, about 240 meters from Plaza Marina Surabaya and 280 meters from Papaya.

This street stall that uses 3-wheeled motorbikes has been selling for almost 20 years, from 2004 until now. Even though they have moved from a location not far from now, many customers remain loyal to enjoying fresh snacks typical of Makassar, South Sulawesi, which does not open a branch and is the only one in Surabaya.

“It’s been a long time since my child was in elementary school until he was so old that he was now able to help. “It’s been almost 20 years, since 2004. I used to sell in the empty land over there, now it’s a gas station,” said Lukman, seller of Ijo Banana Ice at Pusat Rasa.

This dish is served consisting of several component ingredients. The main component is bananas wrapped in green skin with a chewy texture. This green skin is made from rice flour mixture mixed with coconut milk and pandan leaf water, giving it a pandan aroma and green color.

Then, it is served with additional components such as marrow porridge made from boiled wheat flour with a chewy texture, ice cubes, red beans, drizzled with red syrup, and sweetened condensed milk. The fresh sweet taste mixed with authentic banana, porridge, syrup and milk makes this snack one of the famous snacks in Surabaya.

Open every day from 10.00 to 17.30, by spending 15 thousand rupiah, you can enjoy a portion of Jumbo Ijo Banana Ice. This Rasa Center shop has also received 985 reviews on the Google Maps application with an average rating of 4.6 stars.

“The strategic location is easy to find and is always a favorite. The portions are large and definitely filling, if you eat at a place you usually don’t finish it so you always just wrap it up to take to the office or home so you can eat it for a long time while enjoying it slowly. Recommended,” wrote Dita Ayu Miranda, who gave a 5 star review on Google Maps.

Apart from Ijo Banana Ice, there is also Palu Butung Es, the only difference is that the banana is served not wrapped in green skin. Around the Rasa Center shop there are also many other street vendors (PKL) with a variety of food such as dumplings, batagor, pangsit noodles, which makes many working class customers often eat lunch around here.

The busiest hours for visitors are during lunch and when they return home from work, namely around 1 pm to 4 pm. The clean place, even though it is on the side of the main road, is also the attraction of this shop. Many school children also eat here after school. Providing several chairs and two mats for lying on the floor when eating at the place is also an added value because it provides quite an interesting experience when enjoying Ijo Pisang Ice here.
