Difference between sushi and sashimi

Sushi is a rice-based dish, especially rice that has been seasoned with vinegar. Usually, sushi is served with various types of side dishes such as raw fish, vegetables, eggs and other seafood.

The rice used in sushi has a sticky texture that makes it easy to shape and is often served with nori (seaweed). Some popular types of sushi include nigiri, maki, and temaki.

On the other hand, sashimi is thinly sliced fresh fish or meat served without rice. Sashimi emphasizes the freshness and authenticity of the taste of the fish or meat used. Raw fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel are some of the common types of sashimi.

But there is also sashimi that uses other ingredients such as octopus and beef. Sashimi is usually enjoyed with soy sauce, wasabi and grated ginger as a complement.

In general, sushi emphasizes the balance between rice and side dishes, while sashimi emphasizes the freshness of the raw ingredients. Even though they are different, both are favorites for Japanese culinary lovers in various parts of the world, including Indonesia.

For those who want to enjoy Japanese dishes with authentic taste, it is important to understand the difference between sushi and sashimi so you can choose according to your tastes and desires.
