Scientists at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil conducted an experiment involving 230 participants ranging from coffee experts, casual coffee connoisseurs to class students. coffee professional. In the experiment, participants tasted high-quality Brazilian coffee in 2 different cup containers.
The first container uses a smooth porcelain cup. Meanwhile, the second container uses a cup made of white ceramic with a rough texture on the outer and inner walls of the cup. However, the two containers both have similar shapes and weights.

From this experiment the participants found differences. They say that cups with a rough texture leave a bitter taste. This is different from coffee in a smooth textured cup which actually tastes sweeter and tastier.

“The cup in which the coffee is served is an important element when it comes to turning coffee consumption specifically into a truly engaging multi-sensory experience,” says expert, Dr. Fabiana Carvalho.
Research published in the Journal of Food Quality and Preference said that participants from professional coffee classes and amateur coffee connoisseurs alike rated coffee from rough cups as having a significantly drier taste when tasted.
