One of my favorite provisions that is practical and delicious is arem-arem. Made from rice filled with stir-fried spices, arem-arem has a savory taste and is suitable to be eaten at any time.

Arem-arem recipe
Material:
- 500 grams of washed rice
- 1,000 ml coconut milk from ½ coconut
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 pandan leaves
- Banana leaves for wrapping
Contents:
- 6 red onions
- 3 cloves of garlic
- Red chilies, remove seeds
- Green chilies, remove seeds
- 1 tomato
- 150 grams of smoked meat
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 250 ml coconut milk from ½ coconut
- Cook rice with coconut milk, salt and pandan leaves. Stir gently until the coconut milk is absorbed by the rice. Once cooked, remove from heat and set aside.
- Puree the shallots, garlic, red chilies, green chilies and tomatoes. Saute ground spices in cooking oil until fragrant. Add the smoked meat that has been cut into small pieces, stir until evenly mixed.
- Add bay leaves, sugar and coconut milk to the stir fry. Cook until the spices are absorbed and thicken, then remove from heat.
- Take a banana leaf, put 2-3 tablespoons of rice on it. Add 1 tablespoon of filling in the center of the rice. Wrap the banana leaves in a lontong shape and secure the two ends with a toothpick.
- Steam the arem-arem for 45 minutes until cooked. Serve warm as a lunch or snack on the go.
