KOMPAS.com – Want to eat fried rice, but have limited ingredients or don’t have much time? You can make simple fried rice, with shrimp paste and onions.
If you don’t like the smell of raw shrimp paste, you can fry the shrimp paste first for a few moments until it smells good. Then add the shrimp paste to the fried rice later.
The following is a recipe and method for making simple fried rice, quoted from the book “30 Practical & Delicious Fried Rice Recipes” by Lia Ahmad (2009) published by TransMedia Pustaka.

Material:
- 400 gr white rice
- 3 tbsp oil (for frying)
- 1 egg (beaten well)
- 1/2 tsp shrimp paste
- 1/2 tsp salt
Seasoning ingredients:
- 10 red onions (thinly sliced)
- 5 cloves garlic (thinly sliced)
- 2 red chilies (thinly sliced)
- 4 bird’s eye chilies (thinly sliced)
- Pour a tablespoon of oil into a frying pan to heat. Next, pour in the eggs, then scramble until cooked. Remove, set aside. Do not throw away remaining oil.
- In the same pan with the remaining oil, fry the chopped herbs until aromatic, then add the shrimp paste. Cook and stir.
- Add rice, scrambled eggs and salt. Cook and stir until smooth. Lift, serve.
