Jakarta – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Rini Soemarno, is determined to make Papuan coffee not only famous in Indonesia but also in the world. It all started with sending fuel and a number of goods and basic necessities to Papua.
Vehicles sending goods to Papua will certainly be very sorry if they return without cargo. “If we send goods, we hope that our ship will return with goods too,” said Rini to journalists after visiting a coffee plantation in Wolo, Wamena, Papua, Monday (20/11/2017).
Rini then saw that there was potential for garden products in Papua that could be sold abroad, namely coffee. He also synergized a number of state-owned companies, such as PT Bank Mandiri, PT Indonesian Trading Company and PT Pos Indonesia to exploit the potential of coffee in Papua.
Bank Mandiri President Director Kartika Wirjoatmodjo (Tiko) said that his party had set up a creative house that focused on marketing and distribution of Wamena and Puncak Jaya coffee. This was because he saw the packaging process for Papuan coffee as less attractive.
It was later discovered that in the production process, Papuan coffee was also processed traditionally. Therefore, Bank Mandiri will also help by providing training to farmers, establishing cooperatives and assisting with the marketing and distribution process.
“The price for raw coffee is only IDR 20 to IDR 30 thousand per kilo. After that packaging “(packaging) the price of Papuan coffee can be IDR 100 thousand per kilo,” said Tiko in the same place.
According to Tiko, currently Wamena coffee has also been distributed to a number of coffee shops in Jakarta. He hopes that Wamena coffee will be able to compete with coffee from other regions in Indonesia.
PT Pos Indonesia Cargo Integration Director Barkah Hadi Mulyono said that in marketing Papuan coffee, his party would use the network they currently have. PT Pos, he said, is a state-owned company that has a national network. “PT Pos will later become a friend of farmers and can also provide marketing. We will utilize this network,” said Barkah.
On that occasion PT PPI, PT Bank Mandiri and PT Pos Indonesia donated a car to transport coffee production from Wolo to Wamena.
“We hope that with the help of this car, logistics costs that have previously been reduced will be reduced cost “The biggest can be trimmed,” said Rini.
