DENPASAR, BALIPOST.com – For the first time, the Ngelawar Parade was held at the Denpasar Festival 2024. The event which took place on Tuesday (24/12) showcased the Balinese culinary tradition, namely ngelawar.
In this parade, several groups from cooperatives and campuses showed off the process of making lawar, from cutting ingredients to mixing spices.
Head of the UMKM Resources Division, Denpasar City UMKM Cooperative Service, Anak Agung Gede Oka, conveyed that the samsam flailing and rolling parade involved representatives from cooperatives in Denpasar City as well as students and academics.
However, due to budget limitations, the number of participants who could join was only six groups. Each group displays their own distinctive lawar, as well as serving rolled samsam.
One of the participants from the Central Utama Mandiri Cooperative, Arianti and Hendra, revealed that preparations had been underway since Monday afternoon, including purchasing materials directly.
Meanwhile, other participants from the Monarch Bali Dalung Campus, Arya and Ade Awan, also shared their stories. These 18 year olds started preparing themselves two days before, with morning preparations starting from 06.00 to 09.00 WITA.
They serve three types of lawar, namely lawar klungah, lawar kulit, and lawar jackfruit. Both of them were very enthusiastic about taking part in this parade, even considering it a valuable experience for them. (Cahya Dwipayanti/Ni Wayan Linayani/balipost)
