“The daily recommendation for caffeine, based on several studies, is less than 200 grams, which is equivalent to two cups of coffee per day. Please remember that caffeine consumption can cause dizziness, nausea and disrupt sleep,” explained Dr. Monte Swarup.
Meanwhile, a recent study explains that pregnant women who often drink drinks containing caffeine can have an effect on the growth of their fetus.
Some of these researchers studied pregnant women in the 1959-1965 era, as well as children born in 1960-1974. Then they compared it with mothers and children from 2009-2013 and 2017 – 2019. As well as their caffeine consumption during pregnancy, followed by data on children’s height development up to the age of 8 years.
The results showed that caffeine consumption during pregnancy was associated with shorter body growth in children, compared to those born to mothers who did not consume caffeine. In fact, the difference reaches 2 cm.

“The essence of this research is that, even though caffeine exposure during pregnancy is quite low, it still has an impact on children’s shorter height. However, there has been no other research that has really evaluated the relationship between caffeine and children’s height. ” said Jessica Gleason, one of the researchers of this study.
However, the researchers emphasized that the effect of caffeine on differences in children’s height is not yet completely clear.
“There is a strong implication, which shows that caffeine consumption in pregnant women of less than 200 mg per day is associated with shorter child height growth. Further research is needed to see this implication,” concluded Dr. Monte.
At the end of the study, Dr. Monte and Jessica advise every pregnant woman to continue communicating with her obstetrician or specialist about caffeine consumption during pregnancy to avoid side effects in the future.
