Photo of Anies Baswedan Cooking Fried Rice Goes Viral Again After 2024 Presidential Candidate Debate: ‘Let Him Cook!’


Suara.com – The photo of Anies Baswedan cooking fried rice on the side of the road went viral again after the 2024 Presidential Candidate Debate. In a tweet uploaded by an account with the name @akitongs, a viral photo of Anies Baswedan cooking fried rice has now been liked more than 5 thousand times.

“Hollup… Let him cook. #Presidential Debate,” wrote the akitongs account, Tuesday, (12/12/2023).

In fact, a similar photo was also re-uploaded by Mutiara Baswedan, who is the daughter of Anies Baswedan. As is known, the photo of Anies Baswedan cooking fried rice on the side of the road turned out to be a photo from three years ago.

At that time, it went viral that a fried rice trader from Wonosobo, Central Java, was said to be similar to Anies Baswedan. In fact, on one occasion, Anies Baswedan, who at that time was still the Governor of DKI Jakarta, also invited the fried rice seller to the DKI Jakarta City Hall.

Many netizens are also wondering, what does ‘Let him cook’ actually mean?

If interpreted literally, ‘let him cook’ itself means ‘let him cook’. However, from a search on Suara.com. ‘Let him cook’ is to let someone freely do something he is good at.

‘Let him cook’ is one of many variations of the phrase let X cook which is used to refer to letting someone do what they do.

‘Let him cook’ is often used to express a desire that another person be given the freedom to do something or not be held back. For example, ‘let him cook’ is often used to describe a talented athlete who wants to compete or a man who wants to try to seduce a woman.

In the context of Anies Baswedan, the term ‘let him cook’ itself is used as a mem when Anies Baswedan attacks and finishes off his debating opponent.

As is known, the KPU held the first debate between presidential and vice presidential candidates for the 2024 presidential election in Jakarta, Tuesday, with the themes of government, law, human rights, eradicating corruption, strengthening democracy, improving public services and citizen harmony.

The debate was attended by three pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates, namely serial number 1 Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, serial number 2 Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and serial number 3 Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md.

The series of debates will continue on 22 December 2023, 7 January 2024, 21 January 2024, and 4 February 2024
