Participation Drops When PSU in Kupang, Melki-Jhoni Wins

Kupang

The General Election Commission (KPU) of Kupang City has held a re-voting (PSU) at TPS 02 Kelapa Lima Village, Kelapa Lima District, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, Thursday (5/12/2024). The candidate pair for governor-deputy governor of NTT, Melki Laka Lena and Jhoni Asadoma (Melki-Jhoni), is ahead of the other two pairs in the PSU.

The PSU results recorded that candidate pair number 1 Yohanis Fransiskus Lema-Jane Natalia Suryanto (Ansy-Jane) received 8 votes. Then, candidate pair number 2 Melki-Jhoni won 102 votes. Finally, candidate pair number 3 Simon Petrus Kamlasi-Adrianus Garu (Simon-Adrianus) received 50 votes.

Chairman of the Kupang City KPU, Ismail Manoe, revealed that voter participation fell in PSU today compared to the election on November 27 2024. In fact, less than half of the residents who exercised their right to vote made up the permanent voter list (DPT).

“A total of 160 voters have given their voting rights from the 413 permanent voter lists (DPT) at TPS 02,” said Ismail.

According to him, one of the factors that voters did not attend was because the PSU was not held on a holiday. As a result, Ismail said, voters who were office workers were unable to exercise their right to vote.

It is known that the PSU is only for the NTT gubernatorial election. This is in accordance with the recommendations of the Kupang City Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).

“We are grateful that the PSU process is running according to the rules again. Because we actually recommended PSU because there were procedures that were missed, so administratively we carried out the PSU,” said the Chair of the Kupang City Bawaslu, Yunior Adi Nange, Thursday.

“As far as we can monitor, everything is going on, both the rules and procedures are running well,” added Yunior.

After holding the PSU, the Kupang City KPU will continue with a plenary recapitulation at the Kupang City level on Friday (6/12/2024) tomorrow.
