Jakarta –
Ordinary salads are an option for those on a diet. However, dietitians recommend not consuming salad at night, because it can trigger bad effects.
Generally, salads are made from a variety of fresh-tasting raw vegetables, such as lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and others. This combination of fresh vegetables is also often added to protein intake and sauce or dressing.
Salads are widely consumed by dieters, because they are considered healthy with high nutritional content. Among them are vitamins, fiber and minerals.
Dieters usually eat this salad for breakfast or lunch. Apart from that, salads are also often an accompaniment to the dinner menu.
Many people also think that eating salad at night is the right choice before going to bed. However, there are some experts who do not recommend consuming salads at night, because of the several effects they cause.
Reporting from Food NDTV (15/12), Amita Gadre, as a nutritionist, revealed the effects that might occur when consuming salad at night. One of them can affect the digestive system.

When consuming raw vegetables the body is required to work 300 percent harder to digest them. That’s why nutritionists recommend boiling, steaming, or mixing it into juice so that the digestive system runs more smoothly.
The process of cooking vegetables also helps the body absorb nutrients more effectively. In addition, consuming salad at night can weaken the digestive system and the body will have difficulty processing it.
2. Entry of Toxins into the Body
At night, the body’s digestive system is naturally weaker, reduced by around 50 percent compared to during the day. So, when you eat raw vegetables at night it can cause fiber to build up, making you urinate more often and disrupting your sleep.
In addition, these undigested foods can create AMA (toxins) in the body. This causes obstruction of nutrient absorption.
3. Triggers bloating
Raw vegetables are known to release gas as their defense mechanism. The gas that comes from raw vegetables can cause flatulence. Vegetables that contain gas are cabbage, mushrooms, onions, and others.
