DENPASAR, BALIPOST.com – Ayam betutu, lawar, satay lilit, suckling pig and others, are typical Balinese culinary delights that tourists are familiar with. But apart from that, Bali also has various types of rujak with distinctive flavors that will make you addicted when you try it.
Here are 4 typical Balinese rujak that you must try, reported from various sources:
1. Rujak Kuah Pindang
Reporting from the official website of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Rujak with pindang sauce is widely known in almost every corner of Bali. This food is very suitable as a dessert or snack when the weather is hot.
As the name suggests, rujak kuah pindang is served using spices mixed with broth from pindang fish. Pindang fish generally smells fishy, but for those who are good at processing it, the fishy taste won’t even be felt at all.
2. Rujak Bulung
Reporting from Tempo.co, this rujak has different characteristics from rujak in general. Generally, rujak is served with fruit, but rujak bulung uses seaweed as the basic ingredient. This rujak is also served with pindang sauce, and is equipped with chili, grilled grated coconut and galangal which makes this rujak even more delicious.
3. Rujak Batu-Batu
This rujak is made from sea shells which are often found on the coast and is a typical menu served in the Tanjung Benoa area. This rujak is called batu-batu because of its hard shell.
The shellfish, which is the main ingredient in this rujak, are collected first, then cleaned of dirt. After that it is boiled for about 30 minutes. This rujak is served with a mixture of vinegar, salt and chili sauce.
4. Boni Fruit Rujak
Boni fruit has the same characteristics as grapes with a round shape and dark color but is smaller in size. This fruit is a local Balinese fruit which is starting to be difficult to find because the trees are becoming rare.
Boni fruit has a sweet and sour taste when it is ripe which is suitable for making salad. This rujak uses traditional Balinese rujak seasoning which contains shrimp paste, chili, salt, granulated sugar or palm sugar which are ground together, and then mixed with boni fruit.
