KPU Reveals Reasons for Klungkung Regional Election Voter Participation Below Target

Klungkung

Voter participation in the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada) in Klungkung Regency has only reached 73.45 percent. The voter participation figure is still below the target set at 78 percent.

Chairman of the Klungkung General Election Commission (KPU) I Ketut Sudiana suspected that the reason residents did not vote was because they were taking part in a traditional ceremony on voting day on November 27. There are also residents who do not exercise their right to vote at the polling station (TPS) because they work.

“We have tried our best to provide information to the public. Socialization of the regional elections has been massive, but public participation has not met our expectations,” said Sudiana, Thursday (5/12/2024).

“The candidate pairs have also not optimally invited the public to give their voting rights to the TPS,” he added.

Sudiana then explained the reason for the still high number of abstentions in Klungkung. In particular, he gave the example of residents from several villages in Banjarangkan District who did not attend the polling station because they were holding the traditional Karya Ngusaba and Tawur Labuh Gentuh ceremonies which are only held once every 10 years.

“In Nusa Penida District, many residents carry out traditional ceremonies such as pitra yadnya or cremation, so they don’t have time to come to the polling place,” he added.

Sudiana detailed that voter participation for the 2024 Bali Governor Election (Pilgub) in Klungkung only reached 73.48 percent. Meanwhile, voter participation for the 2024 Klungkung Regent Election (Pilbup) was 73.45 percent.

“The Klungkung Regency KPU will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to find the main factors causing low voter participation,” said Sudiana.

Previously, the Klungkung KPU had completed the recapitulation of votes for the Bali gubernatorial election and the 2024 Klungkung regional election. As a result, the candidate supported by the PDIP still controlled the vote share in Gumi Serombotan.

The recapitulation at the Klungkung Regency level places the candidate pair Wayan Koster-I Nyoman Giri Prasta (Koster-Giri) as the winner of the Bali gubernatorial election and the duet I Made Satria-Tjokorda Gde Surya Putra (Satriya) as the winner of the 2024 Klungkung regional election. bearing the symbol of a bull.

The vote counting process for the Bali gubernatorial election is carried out in stages from the sub-district, district and provincial levels. Sudiana said that the results of the vote recapitulation for the Bali gubernatorial election at the district level would be reviewed again by the Bali Provincial KPU.

Based on the results of the Klungkung KPU plenary session, Bali governor-deputy governor candidate pair number 1 Made Muliawan Arya-Putu Agus Suradnyana (Mulia-PAS) received 48,841 votes or 40.74 percent of the total 119,889 valid votes. Meanwhile, candidate pair number 2 Koster-Giri received 71,044 votes or 59.26 percent.

Then for the recapitulation of the Klungkung Pilbup votes, candidate pair number 2, I Made Satria-Tjokorda Gde Surya Putra (Satriya) received the highest votes with 63,794 votes or 53.15 percent. Candidate candidate number 1 I Made Kasta-I Ketut Gunaksa (Astaguna) received 24,577 votes (20.48 percent) and candidate pair number 3 I Ketut Juliarta-I Made Wijaya (Jaya) received 31,646 votes.
