Kastengel Recipe, Family Snack on Christmas Eve


KOMPAS.com – Christmas is a special moment full of warmth, and there is nothing more fitting to accompany family togetherness than a classic snack like kastengel.

This Kastengel recipe requires two chicken eggs and several other ingredients such as flour, cornstarch, butter and cheddar cheese.

Store the kastengel in an airtight jar after the kastengel has cooled, so that it remains crunchy when eaten the next day.

Kastengel ingredients:

  • 225 grams of low protein wheat flour
  • 25 grams of cornstarch
  • 175 grams of butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant chicken flavored stock powder
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 100 grams of grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Spread ingredients (mix well):

  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon liquid plain milk

How to make kastengel

1. Mix flour, cornstarch, instant stock powder, salt and grated cheese, then stir until evenly mixed. After that, add the butter and egg yolks then stir using a knife or fork until the mixture forms granules.

2. Press the dough with a wooden spoon until the dough is solid and can be rolled out. Roll the dough until it is 1/2 centimeter thick, then mold the castle to resemble a pencil.

3. Brush the surface of the dough with the spread, then sprinkle the top with grated cheese. Bake the kastengel in the oven at 160 degrees Celsius for around 30 minutes or until the cake is golden brown.

4. Remove the cake from the grill and let it cool to room temperature first before storing it in an airtight jar.
