Quoting via the Times of India (26/11) Luke Countinho as a healthy lifestyle consultant said that there are dangers that affect health if you eat with negative emotions. “Our bodies are not built to digest and absorb food under stressful conditions,” says Luke.
Blood pressure, blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels can increase when the body is stressed, which greatly affects the absorption of nutrients in the body food. Apart from that, anger can also cause the stomach to experience various complications.
Negative emotions can make the stomach feel bloated, produce more stomach acid and trigger diarrhea which can be experienced when eating while angry. This condition is also said to be more severe in sufferers of irritable bowel syndrome and colitis.
“You won’t get good bacteria to digest the food you consume and even swallowing will be very difficult due to muscle contractions. Our body will not be able to digest the food and absorb the nutrients,” explained Luke.

Another reason why eating while angry is strictly prohibited is that people who are emotional tend to overeat more. Anger stored in the brain can also block communication with the body, making it difficult to recognize the need for intake through food.
Luke also mentioned that the most important reason to pay attention is the effect of negative emotions which can prevent good bacteria in the gut from entering the bloodstream. The result is that when the bacteria that enter the blood are not healthy enough, diseases such as diarrhea, colitis and autoimmune disease will arise which are very threatening to health.
If you are angry, Luke suggests taking a break and calming down before enjoying food. Anger and negative emotions can trigger a spike in blood pressure which will also rise right after enjoying food.
Luke said this was in line with the concept of mindful eating which suggests a person must be truly ready to receive food without interference from their surroundings. Even after eating, it is recommended to sit back and relax and not exercise or just take a shower.
