Jayapura (ANTARA) – The City Government (Pemkot) of Jayapura, Papua, through the Tourism Office, is training 30 novice baristas from the creative economy community to become professional baristas.
Acting Head of the Jayapura City Tourism Office, Erid Rumansara, said that the barista training aims to encourage coffee activists to understand the types and pursue the coffee business.
“So it is hoped that after receiving material from resource persons from BNSP they will be better prepared to start a business,” he said.

He added that by participating in this program the participants (baristas) will be more creative and have the courage to try because the training is designed for them to be able to master these skills.
“Apart from that, it can raise the spirit of entrepreneurship among young people and make them the driving force of the economy, especially in the creative economy sector,” he said.
Head of the Creative Economy Division at the Jayapura City Tourism Office, Richard Nahumarury in Jayapura, Wednesday, said that in the training, 30 participants would receive material from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP).

“During the training participants will receive material regarding the introduction of equipment, supplies and materials in the coffee shop business as well as standardization of coffee services,” he said.
Nahumarury hopes that through this training the baristas can improve their abilities in mixing coffee.
He added that all the barista training participants were Indigenous Papuans (OAP) who took part in the activity on October 17 2024.
