TRIBUNNEWS.COM – Chicken opor and rendang are favorite menus during Eid. These two menus contain coconut milk.
If we don’t finish the Eid meal, we then reheat it several times to serve and eat.
Heating food is also done so that the food does not spoil easily and is warmer when eaten.
However, heating food repeatedly is not good for your health.
Reporting from Kompas.com, Indriati Solo Baru Hospital Nutritionist, Rista Yulianti Mataputun, S.Gz., said that opor and rendang are foods made from a mixture of coconut milk.

This is what makes opor and rendang not recommended to be heated repeatedly.
He explained that coconut milk is actually included in the good fat category. Coconut milk contains fatty acids and trilycerides which are easily burned by the body.
However, if the food is heated or reheated repeatedly, the fat in coconut milk can turn into saturated fat.
This type of fat is known to increase levels of bad cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the body, thereby increasing the risk of blocked blood vessels and even heart disease.
“If dishes containing coconut milk are heated many times, a layer of oil will form. “This is what causes this dish to be dangerous,” explained Rista when interviewed by Kompas.com, Tuesday (19/5/2020).
Apart from that, heating coconut milk dishes repeatedly can also cause the sodium-salt levels in the food to increase, as said by Wahyu Hardi Prasetiyo SSTG MPH RD, nutritionist/dietitian.
“This is of course dangerous for people who have a history of hypertension or high blood pressure and sufferers of hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol levels in the body),” said Wahyu, quoted from Tribunnews.
Thus, Wahyu advises us to provide Eid dishes such as chicken opor and rendang to taste.
“Serve dishes with coconut milk such as chicken opor or rendang, just enough for one day’s needs. It’s true that this effort is not practical, but it is for the sake of maintaining health,” suggested Wahyu.
Not only paying attention to food containing coconut milk that is heated repeatedly, when eating Eid dishes such as chicken opor and rendang, you also have to be wise in consuming these foods.
Because, if you don’t limit the portions of eating Eid dishes, it can actually trigger bad conditions in the body, such as excess weight, high cholesterol, and others.
Reporting from FatSecret, 100 grams of chicken opor actually contains 163 calories. Meanwhile, in 100 grams of rendang, there are 195 calories.
Generally, the recommended daily calorie intake is 2,000 calories per day for women and 2,500 calories per day for men.
Thus, when Eid arrives, we need to estimate the number of calories entering the body before finding risks to health after Eid.
