Jury president and AVPA organoleptic expert André Rocher said he was pleasantly surprised by the quality Indonesian coffee which varies greatly. André himself has been familiar with the world of coffee since he was responsible for coffee quality at Douwe Egberts in 1971, then Jacobs and Kraft Foods (Mondelez International) until 2009.

According to him, Indonesian coffee has experienced a lot of progress. Meanwhile, another judge, Serge Edmond, also said that several countries, including Indonesia, have good roasting quality. However, some producers are still often confused by the term ‘French Roast’. They roast the coffee to dark or very dark roast, even though that term does not originate from France. He said that most coffee in France is light to medium roast.
