Exploring Coffee Brewing Techniques from Indonesian AeroPress Championship Champions

Inspira Roaster held an event entitled ‘Mind Brewing’ which presented various discussions about the world of coffee, with guest star Rifqi Hasbullah, winner of the Indonesia AeroPress Championship 2023. This event took place at Inspira Roasters, The Gaia Hotel Bandung, Friday (20/9/2024).

The first day of the two series of events began with the Expert Talk talk show session, where Rifqi shared stories of his journey in the world of coffee. He told how his interest in the technique of brewing coffee using an AeroPress began until he finally succeeded in winning the Indonesia AeroPress Championship last year.

Rifqi explained what makes AeroPress special compared to other manual brew techniques, one of which is the unique shape of the tool. “It has a unique shape, the AeroPress shape. Because usually we see the V60 manual brew (tool) again. That’s actually it, from the shape,” said Rifqi, Friday (20/9/2024).

Apart from sharing life experiences, Rifqi also discussed various technical aspects regarding manual brewing, especially AeroPress. According to him, at first brewing coffee with the AeroPress felt easy.

“It’s easy, we just pour in the coffee, then pour in the water and just press it. It’s easy and not too complicated. But it turns out that when you put it in, tricky Also. There’s a process inverted, “Then you have to press it in sync with the time, and you have to press it with what pressure, and how many seconds,” said Rifqi.

However, these difficulties actually made Rifqi even more curious and enthusiastic to learn more about the AeroPress manual brew technique. He continues to try to find the right recipe for making coffee, according to his knowledge and experience so far.

Furthermore, Rifqi explained other advantages that AeroPress has. One of them is the ease of carrying this tool to various places.

Apart from that, Rifqi added that AeroPress is now increasingly developing with designs that are compatible with glasses and tumblers on the market. This allows users to manually brew directly on their personal equipment without having to bother looking for a suitable container
