Experts Say These 4 Types of Tea Are Effective in Helping You Lose Weight

Consuming several types of tea can actually reduce weight while dieting. You can consume black tea to white tea to feel the benefits for the body.

Tea has various benefits for the body because it contains antioxidants which are good for maintaining immunity. Apart from that, tea is also good for the body’s metabolism for burning fat which can reduce weight.

Reported by Forbes (10/1/2024), there are several types of tea that can be relied on for losing weight. These include green tea, black tea, oolong tea and white tea. These four types of tea are known to contain polyphenolic compounds.

Sharon Palmer, a dietitian in Ojai, California, explains the benefits of polyphenols. This compound has antioxidant properties that help protect the body from cell damage caused by free radicals.

Kylie Churnetski, a nutritionist from Dallas, United States, also explained that certain types of tea can help the body lose weight by increasing its metabolism. Drinking tea is also much healthier than consuming soda and energy drinks.

Here are 4 types of tea that can reduce weight:

1. Green Tea

Green tea is commonly consumed in Japan, because of its delicious taste. Apart from that, there are also many benefits in it. Churnetski stated that green tea contains high levels of the polyphenol epigallocatechin-3 gallate (EGCG).

These compounds can reduce the risk of heart disease and certain cancers. Other benefits can increase thermogenesis and stimulate fat burning.

In one 2018 study in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, green tea extract was shown to increase leptin levels and reduce LDL cholesterol in women who had a lot of extra weight and were obese. Leptin is a hormone involved in appetite regulation and energy balance.

2. Black Tea

The process of making black tea goes through several stages until full oxidation of the tea leaves. Churnetski explains that this process produces caffeine levels that can support weight loss by naturally stimulating metabolism.

The effects of consuming black tea were described in one small study on 111 participants. Over a three-month period, regular consumption of black tea was found to inhibit weight gain and reduce waist circumference.
