Eating Indonesian Food in London, Medicine for Homesickness


LONDON, KOMPAS.com – Bored with english breakfast or pastries while in London, England? You can try typical Indonesian food to cure your longing for your homeland.

A number of typical Indonesian restaurants are easy to find in London, one of which is at 26 Strutton Ground.

The food sold is varied, such as rendang, nasi uduk, meatballs, soto, laksa, chicken noodles and chicken penyet. The price of a rendang menu, for example, is around 10 pounds sterling or around Rp. 201,000.

Meanwhile, meatballs are priced at 9 pounds sterling or around Rp. 180,900, as is soto.

Not only the main menu, this restaurant also sells a variety of traditional Indonesian snacks, starting from putu ayu for 1.50 pounds sterling (around Rp. 30,144), talam cakes and rolled omelette for 2 pounds sterling (around Rp. 40,192), and cendol ice for 5 pounds sterling. (Rp. 100,482).

There are various kinds of drinks, from coffee, bandrek, toffee, juice, etc virgin mojito.

One of the restaurant visitors, Freddy Danny, said that the prices offered were much lower than typical London food, such as steak.

“The price may be different (from Indonesia), if… exchanged-in. Can’t-compare (compared) yes. “But in my opinion, okay, it’s worth it (between the food and the price),” said Freddy to Kompas.comWednesday (20/11/2024).

Even though he is on holiday in London, Freddy admits that he cannot forget typical Indonesian food.

Therefore, he still chooses to eat typical Indonesian culinary delights abroad, as a snack when typical London menus fill his days.

“And this coincidence my best friend (close friend) who take care of it the food. Really delicious. Eat meatballs for sure, chicken penyet, rendang, that’s it, everything, yeah, I’ll try,” he said.

Freddy admitted that he did not regret having tasted the food he ordered at the restaurant.

“Very good. Don’t lose okay “As for the meatballs, it’s not inferior, the chicken penyet isn’t inferior either to (restaurants in) Jakarta,” he said.
