Diabetes is a condition when a person fails to produce enough insulin. This includes conditions when the body cannot process or use insulin efficiently. With this condition, blood sugar levels in the body can also increase drastically, causing life-threatening risks.

However, diabetes can be controlled by changing your lifestyle to a healthier one. Carbohydrates are something that should be avoided because carbohydrates consumed can be broken down into glucose which can trigger a rapid increase in blood sugar.

Even though carbohydrates are considered the enemy, in fact there are several carbohydrates that are safe for consumption by diabetics.

Some types of nuts contain high amounts of carbohydrates. However, it also contains fiber and protein which are good for body health.

According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), beans such as black beans and kidney beans can be included in the daily menu.

According to everydayhealth.com (13/08/2019), the recommended fiber intake for men and women every day is 25 and 38 grams of fiber. This fiber intake can be filled by consuming nuts.

2. Fruits

Fruit is a food with a variety of important nutrients for the body. Apart from fiber and vitamins, fruit actually also contains carbohydrates. However, these carbohydrates are good so they are safe for consumption by diabetics.

The American Diabetes Association advises those with the disease diabetes can consume various fruits as long as they are not allergic, reports the Times of India (11/12).

Meanwhile, there are also fruits that are better avoided, such as bananas, mangoes, grapes which have high calories. It is better to consume fruit that is high in fiber such as apples, oranges, papaya and watermelon.
