Jakarta –
Tea is a drink that has healthy properties because it contains antioxidants. However, if taken at the wrong time it can have bad effects on the body.
Quoting from Harvard University, the antioxidant substances contained in tea are polyphenols or flavonoids. This content can control the effects of free radicals which can damage the body. Therefore, the body’s immunity and metabolism are maintained.
However, tea consumption can be unhealthy if you drink it at the wrong time. Reporting from Food NDTV (19/12), Dr Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya, an expert in Ayurveda (Indian health science) explained that there are 3 worst times to drink tea.
1. In the morning on an empty stomach
Apart from containing antioxidants, tea is also known to contain caffeine. Therefore, it is not good if you consume it straight away in the morning when your stomach is still empty.
Dr Savaliya also advises not to consume tea at this time. Because caffeine consumed on an empty stomach can interfere with the production of cortisol, the main stress hormone, and cause feelings of anxiety and loss of balance.
2. While eating

Drinking tea should also not be done while eating. Because tea is acidic which can inhibit the body’s digestive system.
If taken together with foods that contain high protein, it will inhibit the digestive process. In addition, tea can also interfere with iron absorption if tea is consumed immediately after eating.
To optimize digestion and absorption of nutrients, you should not drink tea within 1 hour before and after eating. The best drink is water.
