Jakarta –
Coffee containing caffeine is a common thing that many people know. But does coffee contain carbohydrates? Here’s the explanation.
Caffeine is one of the most popular ingredients in coffee. In fact, coffee also contains other compounds or ingredients that are no less important. For example, identical carbohydrates are contained in staple foods.
In fact, coffee also contains carbohydrates naturally. However, the amount can increase, depending on the type of coffee, brewing method, and other additional ingredients.
So, what types of coffee contain carbohydrates? The following is the explanation as reported by cafely.com (01/10/2024).
1. Black coffee has the lowest carbohydrate content

The fewer ingredients used, the fewer total carbohydrates in coffee. Black coffee has the lowest carbohydrates compared to other types of coffee. In one cup of coffee, there is only about 2 grams of carbohydrates.
Black coffee, espresso, and Americano all contain very few ingredients, so the carbohydrates in them are negligible.
However, the content will change when black coffee is brewed or other ingredients are added.
Meanwhile, cold brew contains higher carbohydrates even though technically it is the same as black coffee. This is because the brewing process is long and slow, so that coffee releases natural sugars which contribute to the amount of carbohydrates.
2. Coffee additives affect carbohydrates

Additional ingredients, such as sugar, syrup, and creamer can increase the total carbohydrates in coffee drinks.
When asking how many carbohydrates are in coffee, it is important to look at all the ingredients used. If you use pure cow’s milk, there are an additional 5 grams of carbohydrates for every 100 ml of cow’s milk used.
Creamer will also add 4.17 grams of carbohydrates to the 100 ml of creamer used. Meanwhile, flavored syrup contains higher carbohydrates, around 21.67 grams per 100 ml of flavored syrup.
Different types of milk, whether animal or vegetable based, will also affect coffee carbohydrates differently. However, added sugar, syrup, or other artificial sweeteners have the biggest impact.
