TRIBUNNEWS.COM – A number of residents of Karangturi Village, Duanwarno District, Klaten Regency, Central Java experienced poisoning after eating dishes at the Wayang Kulit Performance event on Saturday (12/4/2025) night.
As many as 110 people were reported to have symptoms of poisoning, and one of them was declared dead.
Of these, 37 people were referred to the hospital to get intensive care, while 72 other residents underwent outpatient care.
“Then there was one person who died with a history of special needs. So according to the information we received from RSUP Dr. Soeradji Tirtonegoro (RSST) the victim had abnormalities in the heart.
At the celebration event, residents enjoyed the rice box served by the committee containing beef rendang, chili sauce, vegetables, and crackers.
The entire dish was cooked together by the neighbors mutually mutual cooperation.
Symptoms of poisoning are experienced after the victims consume krecek and rendang sambal.
Complaints such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea began to be felt by residents one by one the next day after the event took place, precisely on Sunday (4/13/2025) morning.
“At first I thought it was only a cold cold,” said Siti Aminah (46), a resident of RT 03 RW 02 who became one of the hundreds of residents who were rushed to the Puskesmas Guruwarno.
“But the night was getting worse. My child was weak and could not eat.”
Meanwhile, Hanung said, his party had opened a health post at the home of one of the residents of Karangturi Village. The health post was opened since Monday (4/14/2025) night.

“So the number of victims we handled was booming last night until 1 pm
Following up on the incident, the Klaten Regency Government determined the status as an Extraordinary Event (KLB).
“Because it involves many residents who are victims and some die. So we include the status of the outbreak. Hopefully this will end soon,” Hanung said.
Hanung explained, residents who were poisoned experienced symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, weakness, dehydration, to fever.
Hanung said, his party suspected the cause of the food poisoning was due to bacteria.
The rest of the food in the celebration event used as a sample has been sent to the laboratory in Semarang to be examined and the results will come out in the next five days.
“Yes, it is still suspicious, for the exact results later waiting for the lab results first. We have traced it to the water used, food samples have also been taken for lab examination,” he explained.
“What is suspected is rendang food and sambal krecek,” he said.
In this case, the police have requested information from three people, including the owner of the celebration.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Klaten Police, Iptu Taufik Frida Mustofa, said that the pattern of food presentation commonly carried out in the village was also focused in the investigation process.
“There are some food left in the box. We have taken the sample to be examined,” said Taufik.
The victim who died was suspected of eating more
According to the Head of the Klaten District Health Office (Diskes), Anggit Budiarto, the victim who died in this poisoning incident took more dishes than other residents.
The victim is suspected of eating two servings of dishes. As a result, the victim experienced kidney disorders.
“After the diagnosis of Dr. Soeradji Tirtonegoro Hospital came out that the victim was indeed experiencing diarrhea and severe dehydration, so that there was a disruption of the direction of kidney failure. In addition there was also a disease,” he said.
“Temporary suspicion, clearly the possibility of poisoning due to processed food. So we have sent food samples to the Semarang lab, ranging from rice, rendang beef, krecek, pickled, crackers, and snacks,” he said.
