1. Mint leaves

Mint leaves are known for their cooling effect, especially due to their menthol content.

The menthol substance in mint can make the body feel cold when a protein called TRPM8 is activated by nerve cells, then conveys an electrical current signal to the brain which is interpreted by the body as a cold sensation.

This menthol has the ability to activate TRPM8, tricking the nerves into thinking they feel cold, even though they actually don’t.

The menthol in mint can also help reduce thirst, so it’s great to add to summer foods or drinks.

To use mint leaves, you can dry the leaves and then make them into cooking spices. Another way, you can add fresh mint leaves to cold water or make fresh mint leaf iced tea, or even make a mint leaf mojito.

2. Turmeric

Turmeric may sound like a spice that can only have a warming effect on the body, but this spice also has compounds that can regulate body temperature.

Turmeric contains the compound curcumin which has a cooling effect on the body and helps regulate body temperature due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

This benefit can be obtained by consuming grated turmeric or sprinkling turmeric powder in cooking. For example, making turmeric tea or adding turmeric to a Thai curry dish.
