Tegal – Ahead of the celebration of the Chinese New Year or Chinese New Year, the demand for basket cakes or Nien Gao jumped sharply. Basket cake crafters in Tegal City, Central Java, even overwhelmed by meetings from various cities, such as Bandung, Solo, Semarang, Jakarta and Surabaya.
In the home industry owned by Mindayani Windarjo, the process of making basket cakes begins with glutinous rice flour dough and liquid caramel sugar, which is then printed and steamed in a large open open for six hours.
With the addition of 30 seasonal employees, they managed to produce 4,000 basket cakes every day. The cake, which has been produced more than 40 years ago, comes with a variety of flavors, such as original, pandanus, strawberries, and chocolate.
