This man from Buleleng who works at the culinary hub Syrco Base, Ubud, Bali, is in second place, closely shadowing the bartender from Canada, Keegan McGregor, in first place. They beat professional bartenders from 44 countries who competed in their drink mixing skills in Shanghai, China, on September 9-12.
In the final round of the competition, which left eight contestants, Aris brought up the concept of “Roots to Flower”, inspired by the life cycle of plants. Its six impressive cocktails utilize every element of several plants, from roots, stems, and leaves, to flowers, fruit, and even the bark of the mesoyi tree, a relative of cinnamon. “The rich cultural elements of Bali are also my inspiration in creating drinks,” said Aris.
Apart from winning second place, Aris was also awarded the World Class People’s Choice Award for his pop-up bar which was the most popular among visitors to the competition.
Chef Syrco Baker, founder of Syrco Base, said that Aris beautifully summarized Syrco Base’s core values, namely traceability, nature and transparency (TNT) in the use of raw materials for his work. “This principle is reflected in every drink we serve. “Everything is carefully selected to blend perfectly with the dishes served,” said Chef Syrco.
Even though it hasn’t been around for a year, his restaurant is now included in the 20 best restaurants in Bali according to Australia’s leading media, Traveller.
Aris’ victory adds to the list of international awards obtained by the Syrco Base mixology and culinary team this year, including second place in Campari Red Hands Asia 2024, regional finalist in the San Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition and global finalist in the Giffard West Cup in France.
