KOMPAS.com – Kikil satay is easy to find in angkringan, complementing offal satay, chicken satay and cat rice.
Kikil satay tastes a bit sweet because it is cooked using bacem spices. So it’s safe for children at home.
You can make bacem kikil satay as a side dish for your family. One recipe makes 10 sticks.

Material:
- 400 gr beef gravel
- 300 ml water
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 cm galangal, crushed
- 1 stalk lemongrass, bruised
- 1 tbsp sweet soy sauce
- 1/4 tsp tamarind
Puree:
- 4 red onions
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 tsp coriander
- 1/2 tsp ground pepper
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- Salt to taste
1. Boil the gravel until soft, cut into 2 centimeters x 2 centimeters.
2. Boil water with ground spices, bay leaves, galangal and lemongrass. Add sweet soy sauce and tamarind. Stir well.
3. Add the gravel pieces, cook until the spices are absorbed and the water runs out. Remove and cool.
4. Pierce the gravel pieces with a satai skewer. Grill over coals until cooked and brown. Lift, serve.
