Denpasar –
Roadside stalls now don’t just sell fried food or jinggo rice. For pizza fans, you can also taste this typical Italian snack in a unique way at the Tjahaja Pizza stall on Jalan Gajah Mada, Denpasar, Bali.
This pizza seller only opens in the afternoon until evening in the corner of a closed shophouse in the heritage area. Even though it started operating on August 13 2024, the pizza place with the angkringan concept went viral on social media. This is because the queue of residents who want to taste the pizza made by Ida Bagus Raka is often snaking.
“We have our own formula and want to give a different impression. However, we still adhere to the standards for making pizza from Italy,” said Raka when met in Denpasar, Saturday (28/9/2024).
Pizza Tjahaja also provides several seats for buyers who want to eat on the spot or dine in. A number of buyers sometimes sit on the floor waiting for their pizza orders in the corner of the shophouse while observing the traffic passing by in the center of the old city.

detikBali had the opportunity to try one of the duck meat pizza menus called Ugly Duckling. The shape is round like most pizzas, cut into six pieces that are not too big. The portion of pizza is enough for two friends to hang out.
This Ugly Duckling menu tastes savory, spicy and sweet. The sweet taste comes from honey, the spiciness comes from chili powder, and the savory taste comes from the barbecue sauce incorporated into the pizza dough.
“There’s pepperoni and some ingredients we bought from suppliers. We process chicken and duck meat ourselves. “We also make the dough ourselves,” said Raka.
Raka said that pizza with duck meat is one of the favorite menus at his stall. Of the 80 portions of pizza available at one opening, most customers order this menu.
Raka has no special reason for choosing duck meat for his pizza. Likewise regarding location. He just wanted to present something different from the majority of hangout places along Jalan Gajah Mada. He admitted that he wanted to emphasize the classic concept of the pizza place, even though the seating capacity was limited.
Hasna Aprilia, a resident of Denpasar, admitted that she had never eaten food in this heritage area. He got information about Pizza Tjahaja from several friends and social media.
“I ordered pizza earlier Back to Basics. It feels unique, there is honey (honey), it has sweetness,” said the 29 year old woman.
Pizza Tjahaja is open every Tuesday to Sunday from 19.00 WITA until finished. Apart from Back to Basic and Ugly Duckling, Pizza Tjahaja also serves pizza made from beef and chicken. Prices for pizza at that place start from IDR 38 thousand.
