Jakarta –
Ice cream is a delicious and popular dessert. It tastes sweet and refreshing from a mixture of fruit, milk and others. However, is consuming it healthy?
Ice cream is a dish made from a mixture of milk and sweet ingredients. Usually mixed with fresh fruit, chocolate, vanilla, jam, and others.
Many say that this dessert contains a lot of sugar, but it is not uncommon for people to say that ice cream can be a healthy snack choice. In fact, this has been proven in several studies.
Reporting from Delish (1/10), a 2018 study found that consuming ice cream may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. Ice cream is also said to be healthy because of the milk mixture in the dish.

Angel Luk, as a nutritionist, also explains the healthy benefits of ice cream. “Real ice cream is a source of vitamins A, D and B12 which can help with healthy vision, immunity, nervous system and cell health,” he explained.
In addition to calcium, which is important for healthy bones and teeth, nutritionist Lauren Manaker says that eating ice cream can bring joy. “We cannot underestimate the ‘joy factor’ that this ice cream can provide,” said Manaker.
Even though it is called healthy, there are also negative impacts that can result from consuming too much ice cream. Manaker highlights the use of milk and added sugar.
Because it contains a lot of sugar and saturated fat, Manaker says that if eaten in excess, ice cream can lead to weight gain, increased blood sugar levels, or even an increased risk of heart disease.
“People who are experiencing conditions such as diabetes or high cholesterol should consume ice cream according to the recommendations of their health care provider,” he added.
So, what is the safe limit for consuming ice cream? Manaker says this depends on eating habits and portion sizes.
“If your diet is generally low in added sugar and you don’t consume it very often, consuming ice cream every day may be fine for generally healthy people,” he explains.
It seems that low-calorie ice cream without added sugar is also safe to consume every day. You can also make it yourself at home to make consumption safer. Of course, it must be alternated with consuming other nutritious foods, such as fruit, vegetables and protein.
