KOMPAS.com – Megengan is a tradition of welcoming the month of Ramadan, generally carried out by the people of Central Java, Yogyakarta and East Java.
Menengan is synonymous with rice dishes, side dishes, and apem cakes, you can prepare your own apem at home.

Material:
- 1 kg of Javanese rice flour
- 2 coconuts
- 1/2 kg of sugar
- 400 ml of coconut oil
- Salt to taste
- Vanilla to taste
- Yeast/Fermipan

How to make apem:
- Grated coconut and take the thick coconut milk about five glasses.
- Mix flour with sugar, vanilla, yeast, and a little fermipan.
- Add thick coconut milk in the flour mixture and stir continuously, until evenly the dough is rather runny.
- Heat the mold that has been given oil approximately one tablespoon on the stove on a medium flame. When it’s hot, pour the mixture on the mold and close for about 10 minutes.
- Once cooked remove from the mold with implant and drain.
