Fried rice syndrome or fried rice syndrome is actually a common food poisoning problem caused by the bacteria Bacillus cereus.
A report published in Clinical Microbiology in 2008 explained that the death of a 20 year old student after eating spaghetti was due to the presence of Bacillus cereus bacteria.
This food is thought to be spaghetti that has been reheated after being stored for several days in the refrigerator.
Causes of fried rice syndrome
Bacillus cereus bacterial contamination can indeed trigger serious health problems, especially in people with weak immune systems.

Generally, bacteria in food can die after being heated. However, B cereus can form cells that can withstand heat.
That’s the reason why heating food will not prevent you from getting B cereus.
Symptoms of fried rice syndrome
Apart from that, B cereus is also known to release two types of toxins. The first poison can cause diarrhea while the other can cause vomiting.
The first type of toxin will be released in the small intestine after consuming contaminated food.
Meanwhile, the second type of poison is even released from food before consumption. This poison is most commonly found in starchy foods, including rice.
The level of toxicity in the second poison can cause you to feel nauseous and vomit after 30 minutes of consuming contaminated food.
These symptoms may subside after 24 hours. However, in some cases, toxins can still persist in the body, resulting in death if left untreated.
With the various risks that exist, avoid leaving food out for too long. Try to eat processed food straight away or store food according to its type.
That’s the information about fried rice syndrome, hopefully this information can make you more careful when processing and storing food.
