KOMPAS.com – Chinese New Year is identical to the red color symbolizing luck. This color is not only present in the decoration, but also typical food, such as cakes.

In addition to artificial dyes, you can try using natural dyes from kitchen ingredients to make it safer and healthier.

1. Beet fruit

Beets are among the most popular natural red coloring. The red beet is more dominant after cooking.

How to use it is quite simple. First, steam the whole beet, do not pee or cut first.

Once cooked, peel the skin and blend until smooth. Then add to the cake dough to get a natural red color.

2. Angkak

Angkak is a typical Chinese spice, a cursory shape like rice with a thick red color.

Usually angkak is used in soup or stir -fry, or becomes a natural dyes for cakes, such as pepe cakes. The resulting colors tend to be dark red.

To get rid of the bitter taste, first brew half a teaspoon to half a tablespoon of angkak with boiling water.

Repeat the brewing process and defecation up to three times. Then ulek angkak until smooth before mixing it into the cake mixture.
