Papaya is a tropical fruit that has a multitude of healthy benefits. However, papaya cannot be consumed by everyone. Six people with this condition were not advised to eat papaya for a number of reasons.
Many Indonesians like papaya because of its soft texture, sweet taste and relatively affordable price. Papaya is delicious to eat just like that or add a little sugar and lime juice when cold.
Consuming papaya is good for the body. Quoting from Medical News Today, papaya contains vitamins A, B, C, E and K, as well as a number of minerals such as magnesium, copper, calcium and potassium. The fiber content in papaya is also effective in treating constipation.
Apart from that, because of its low calorie content, papaya is suitable as a snack for those on a diet.
Behind a number of advantages of papaya, in fact not everyone can consume papaya. These six groups need to consider other fruit alternatives that are safer without causing health problems.
Here’s the list:
1. Pregnant women
Pregnant women need to avoid eating unripe or half-ripe papaya. As quoted from Healthshots, papaya that is not fully ripe can be a laxative and trigger uterine contractions.
Additionally, if the mother has a history of miscarriage, it is advisable to avoid papaya.
2. Kidney stone sufferers

Papaya is high in vitamin C. For kidney stone sufferers, you need to avoid or limit consumption of papaya because too much vitamin C can actually make the disease worse.
3. Latex allergy
Papaya has several types of allergens or allergy triggers in the form of proteins. Proteins that can trigger allergies include papain, chymopapain, carcaine, and chitinase.
People with latex allergies are most likely allergic to papaya. If you have an allergy to latex, then you should avoid eating papaya or papaya derivative products.
4. People with heart problems

Papaya contains papain which is thought to slow the heart rate. It’s no surprise that many experts believe people with heart problems need to avoid papaya.
5. Hypothyroid sufferers
Hypothyroidism is a condition when the body does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone functions to control growth, cell repair and metabolism.
Consuming papaya can worsen the condition of hypothyroid sufferers.
6. Hypoglycemia sufferers

For sufferers of hyperglycemia, aka high blood sugar, papaya is a fruit that is safe to consume because it helps regulate blood sugar. On the other hand, for people with hypoglycemia or low blood sugar, papaya is not a good choice.
Quoting from the Times of India, papaya has anti-hypoglycemic or blood sugar lowering effects. If you eat papaya, blood sugar in people with hypoglycemia can drop even further, causing a number of symptoms to appear, such as confusion, trembling and a fast heartbeat.
