A Breakfast Menu That Secretly Causes High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol
The following is a breakfast menu that secretly causes high blood pressure and cholesterol as reported by the Times of India, Thursday (16/5/2024).
1. Cereal
Although cereal can be part of a balanced diet, certain types of cereal can cause increases in high blood pressure and cholesterol levels. This is because these cereals are rich in sugar and refined carbohydrates, which can cause spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels, potentially impacting blood pressure and cholesterol.
Choosing whole grain cereals that are low in added sugar and pairing them with protein-rich foods can help reduce these effects.
2. Pancakes
Although delicious, pancakes often contain high amounts of refined carbohydrates and unhealthy fats, both of which can cause elevated cholesterol levels. These foods usually contain ingredients such as processed flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, which can increase bad cholesterol and lower good cholesterol if consumed in excess.
Additionally, packaged pancake mixes contain artificial additives and preservatives that can negatively impact heart health. To lower the risk of cholesterol problems, it is recommended to choose homemade pancakes that use whole wheat flour and healthier fat sources such as olive oil or mashed banana rather than ready-made mixes.
