Dietitian: A variety of MBG menus can fulfill nutritional intake even without milk

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Dietitian from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) Fitri Hudayani said that the varied menu of the Free Nutritious Meals program can still meet children’s nutritional intake even if they are not given milk.

“Meeting nutritional needs by using a variety of food ingredients is very possible (to fulfill nutrition) even if milk is not given,” said Fitri when contacted by ANTARA, Tuesday.

In the free lunch menu which began being distributed to schools throughout Indonesia on Monday (6/1), there are menu variants of rice, omelet or fried chicken, and vegetable side dishes in the form of carrots and broccoli.

To meet children’s complete daily nutritional needs, Fitri said the recommended amounts are 200 grams of rice, 1 egg, 100 grams of carrots and broccoli and also oil for processing which can meet energy needs of 575 Kcal (35 percent) with 16 grams of protein. .

Of this amount, Fitri said that this menu should have met 30-35 percent of the appropriate calories which can complete the daily nutritional needs of children aged 7-9 years, with a need of 1650 kilo calories a day.

“40 grams of protein, 55 grams of fat and 250 grams of carbohydrates, the calcium requirement of 1000 mg/day can be met, one of which is through lunch with a complete nutritional composition that can meet 30 – 35 percent of daily needs,” he said.

Meanwhile, milk, which is a source of energy, protein, fat and calcium, can be obtained from other food ingredients such as fish, eggs, vegetables and nuts.

Fitra said that to meet children’s nutritional needs, organizers can set food ingredient standards for their menu cycles so that the amount of nutritional value provided can be guaranteed to be standardized.

Apart from that, as the child’s age increases, there will be an increase in calorie needs, so the number of portions must be adjusted for PAUD, elementary, middle and high school children.
