However, there are only a few countries that are the largest coffee producers in the world, one of which is Indonesia.

1. Brazil

Brazil is number one in producing coffee. Because this country has a coffee plantation area of ​​around 27 thousand square kilometers, spread across several areas such as Sao Paulo, Parana and Minas Gerais.

Their coffee production in 2020 reached 63.4 million 60 kilogram bags. Brazil also has different coffee processing techniques compared to other coffee producers. Namely, the coffee is dried in direct sunlight without a washing process first, this is what characterizes the taste of Brazilian Coffee.

2. Vietnam

In second place is Vietnam, which is also a leading coffee producer. In 2020, Vietnam produced 29 million bags of coffee. Production increases every year, while what is mostly produced is robusta coffee.

In fact, Vietnam is the number one producer of robusta coffee in the world with global production reaching 40 percent in the 2019-2020 period. Maybe if a traveler often encounters Vietnamese drip coffee, this dish is also often prepared with robusta coffee with the addition of sweetened condensed milk.

3. Indonesia

In third place is Indonesia, which, based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), has produced 774.60 thousand tons or 11.95 million sacks in 2020. Not only that, Indonesia is also said to be the largest coffee exporting country, with the aim of exporting to the United States, Japan, Spain, and others.

The province that contributes the largest coffee production in Indonesia is South Sumatra, where it produced 201.40 thousand tons throughout 2021.

Indonesian coffee is so famous that it has even become the name of a programming language. Reporting from BPPTIK KOMINFO, Java was developed by Sun engineer, James Gosling, in 1990 and acts as the brain for smart equipment such as Interactive TVs, multifunction ovens, etc. He created a programming language and named it Java after Java coffee, which he said Gosling often consumed.

4. Uganda

It turns out that the African continent also has a fairly large coffee producing country, namely Uganda. This country produces 6.1 million bags of coffee. The high production of coffee in Uganda is directly proportional to the large number of coffee farmers here.

The number is quite large, namely there are 1.7 million coffee farmers in Uganda who are quite active in producing coffee. According to the International Coffee Organization, Uganda’s coffee farmers are the second largest in the world after Ethiopia.

5. Mexico

Not only is this country known for its large coffee consumers, but this country also has relatively high coffee production.

It is proven that they are in 5th place, producing 4 million sacks of coffee throughout 2020. The high production goes hand in hand with the high consumption in this country. In fact, in 2019 the World Coffee Organization ranked this country in the fourth position as the country with the largest coffee consumption.
