Tang Yuan Recipe, Chewy Balls Filled with Typical Chinese New Year Nuts

Recipe tang yuan

Material tang yuan:

  • 2 tablespoons ground roasted sesame seeds, peanuts, peanuts almonds or cashews
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

Leather Material:

  • 150 grams of glutinous rice flour
  • 15 grams of regular rice flour or tapioca flour
  • 10 tablespoons boiling water

How to make tang yuan:

1. Crush the seeds until fine but not powdery, then mix with coconut oil until evenly mixed. Cool the nut mixture inside freezer.

2. Stir the glutinous rice flour, tapioca flour and water in a heatproof bowl until well mixed and the dough is soft. After that, divide the dough into two parts.

3. Roll each piece of dough to a thickness of 2.5 centimeters, then cut the dough into several small pieces. Sprinkle the top of the dough with rice flour so it doesn’t stick.

4. Take one sheet of dough, make a depression with your thumb in the middle, then place the filling in the middle. Form a ball of dough until the filling is completely covered.

5. Repeat similar steps until all the dough and filling ingredients are used up. Place the dough in a tray sprinkled with rice flour, then set aside.

6. Bring water to a boil in a large saucepan, then place the mixture into the boiling water slowly so that it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. Simmer for 15 minutes over low heat until the skin of the mixture is almost clear.

7. Serve tang yuan in a bowl while warm.
