How to Store and Reheat Satay Leftover from a New Year’s Party

KOMPAS.com – New Year’s Eve celebrations are often accompanied by BBQ parties with family or friends. Various dishes such as meat, seafood, vegetables and grilled fruit taste more delicious when enjoyed together.

However, it is not uncommon for there to be food left over because there is quite a lot of it. Instead of throwing it away, you can save the leftover food, including satay, for consumption in the next few days.

The following is the right way to store and reheat satay so that it remains delicious when eaten again.

How to store satay

Chicken satay can only last overnight if stored at room temperature. If you want to consume it on the same day, just store the satay in the food storage cupboard.

However, if you want to enjoy it the next day, you can follow these steps:

Store in the freezer

  • Place the chicken satay in a closed container to maintain its quality.
  • Keep it inside freezer to last up to two days.

Please remember that although satay is still safe to consume, the taste and texture will not be as good as freshly cooked satay.

Tips for storing satay

  • Make sure not too much spice sticks to the satay when storing to avoid significant changes in taste.
  • Don’t forget to melt the ice on the satay before reheating it.

How to reheat satay

Warming satay requires special attention so that the texture remains soft and the taste remains delicious.

Here are the methods recommended by experts:

Steam the satay

  • Place the satay on the steamer.
  • Add a plate under the satay to catch the oil that comes out during the heating process. This oil can be reused to enrich the taste of satay.
  • Steam until the satay is hot and the oil comes out.

Avoid microwaves

Warming satay in the microwave can make the texture dry and less delicious.

Chicken satay should be consumed within 12 hours of storage. If it is more than that, the quality of the satay will decrease, although it can still be enjoyed after being warmed.
