Siomay was crowned the most delicious dumpling in the world according to Taste Atlas

Indonesian culinary delights are once again showing their fangs on the world stage. Siomay was named the 1st ranking of the tastiest dumplings in the world Taste Atlas.

Recently, Taste Atlas released a list of the Top 100 best dumplings in the world for the period July 2024. Of the hundreds of dumpling culinary lists available, dumplings from Indonesia managed to beat gyoza from Japan to tangbao from China.

“Here are the top 10 dumplings in the world, … and number one, dumplings from Indonesia,” wrote Taste Atlas in an Instagram upload @tasteatlas on Sunday (21/7).

Dumpling itself is a typical Chinese dumpling that is usually served during Chinese New Year celebrations as a symbol of prosperity. According to various sources, this culinary delight was discovered around 1,700 years ago.

On its website, Taste Atlas calls siomay an Indonesian dish consisting of cone-shaped steamed fish dumplings, eggs, potatoes, cabbage, tofu and bitter melon.

After steaming, all the ingredients are placed on a plate, cut into bite-sized pieces, and sprinkled with spicy peanut sauce.

The final touch to this dish is a drizzle of sweet soy sauce and chili sauce, as well as a little lime juice.

Siomay comes from Chinese shumaiand is believed to have originated among Chinese immigrants who came to Indonesia during the Dutch colonial period.

Before being named the most delicious dumplings in the world, at the end of 2023 dumplings managed to become the most delicious street snacks in the world according to Taste Atlas.
